Hypnosis, what exactly is it? It’s a state of trance characterized by extreme suggestibility, relaxation and heightened imagination.
It is said to be known as the door to the subconscious mind where we are able to tap into our belief system to make suggestions which are adapted rapidly or over time.
In conventional hypnosis, you approach the suggestions of the hypnotist, or your own ideas, as if they were reality. So if the hypnotist suggests that you are eating a delicious red apple you will then taste the flavors an apple creates.
The entire time this occurs you are aware that it is only a suggestion, yet you are allowing yourself to ‘play’ along. It is much like watching a movie where you realize you are separate from the scenes, but still feel the emotions the movie provides.
Now that we have an idea of what hypnosis is let’s talk about some of the benefits of hypnosis.
3 Benefits of Hypnosis
1.Eliminate Bad Habits
When most people think of using hypnosis for personal use they typically think of it for weight loss or to quit smoking cigarettes. Because a hypnotist is able to bring you to a suggestible state they are able to create a bad connotation that is associated with the habit you wish to stop.
With smoking that may mean the cigarette now tastes terrible to you or smells extremely foul. With weight loss that may mean sweets don’t taste as sweet or just aren’t as satisfying as a juicy red apple.
Over a few sessions the bad habit will diminish or cease.
2.Stress/anxiety or Better Sleep
Hypnosis is an incredible tool to use for reducing stress and anxiety. Hypnosis is considered to be the relaxed mental state between wakefulness and sleep where we feel uninhibited because we are able to tune out the worries & doubts that usually arise.
Anytime we allow ourselves to be uninhibited we are allowing ourselves to take the weight of the world off our shoulders and remember what it is to truly live.
Life is not about struggles and hardship even though it can feel that way at times. Life is actually about LIVING, loving, dreaming, and creating moments of bliss. If we can’t allow ourselves to experience these things then we aren’t really living at all.
Less stress also allows for better sleep because we are now able to get into a comfortable state of being. Many people who suffer from difficulty in sleep are dealing with stress, on some level, that is keeping them awake.
Of course, this isn’t to say there aren’t other factors like caffeine or lack of physical activity that could be at play, too.
3. Smash Goals
Hypnosis allows you to get ‘unstuck’ so you can smash the goals you set. You can allow yourself to visualize and get a sense of what your future goal actually looks like and feels like under hypnosis.
Hypnosis will allow you to create all the feelings you wish to associate with your goal and tie it to an image in your mind. When we know the feelings we wish to create along with the actual visual we are far more likely to actually make it happen, because we are already experiencing the new goal/reality in our mind.
